These easy green beans are a family favorite! Briefly boiled and tossed with juicy cherry tomatoes in a flavorful basil butter sauce, they’re the perfect side dish for any occasion. We love them for Easter dinner, but they’re a delicious addition to any weeknight meal!

  • 1 ½ pounds green beans, trimmed and cut into 2-inch pieces
  • 1 ½ cups water
  • ¼ cup butter
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • ¾ teaspoon garlic salt (or ½ teaspoon garlic powder and ¼ teaspoon salt)
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 ½ teaspoons chopped fresh basil
  • 2 cups cherry tomato halves

  1. Cook the Beans: Place the green beans and water in a large saucepan. Cover, bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes, or until tender-crisp. Drain the beans and set them aside.
  2. Make the Basil Butter: Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Stir in the sugar, garlic salt, pepper, and chopped basil. Cook for about 30 seconds, until fragrant.
  3. Combine and Serve: Add the cherry tomato halves to the skillet and cook, stirring gently, for 1-2 minutes, or until they soften slightly. Pour the buttery tomato mixture over the cooked green beans and toss gently to coat. Serve immediately.
